Our Story

Qualitown is the product of years of inspiration and hard work! Founder Ms. Caroline started this business in the Village of Cumberland, where she previously resided and worked as a nurse at the VIHA. While working and observing the community and environmental changes, she realized the need in society due to the economy in balance. The founder, Caroline, is a Nigerian and Canadian by nationality. This mother of two is a strong entrepreneur who believes in making a difference in society through innovative ideas and transformation. Caroline founded Qualitown in 2015 but meanwhile, but she discovered this idea in the year 2011. Qualitown was an inspiration as a small home business in Port Hardy, where she initially allocated to from Africa. In 2009 Qualitown also Caroline shopped on eBay for her unborn child and got deals on a lot of beautiful used children’s clothing. She was obsessed with online bidding and was very good at it as a true entrepreneur. As years go by, her kids grow out of all those eBay clothing, and she decides to sell them back on eBay to earn back some money since they are still in pretty good condition.
This mother is one started an online auction sale and sold all of the clothing she bought on eBay back on eBay. This is where she discovered the need to reuse and recycle.
In January 2013, I got hold of an extensive recycling company in Montreal that made a deal with me to supply children to get me into the eBay online auction business. I was nine months pregnant with my second child when the goods arrived. However, I was very heavy, yet, excited to start a small home base business as an entrepreneur. Little do I know how changing it would be as a beginner in the clothing industry. As a strong entrepreneur, you do not look at the challenges; instead, motivation and passion make you who you are.
My online trade was very successful, but I decided to achieve an educational standard before pursuing my goals.
I relocated to Vancouver to study and finalize my degree as an RCA. I worked and worked and worked again. Very hard working, punctual and reliable. You can ask me to work in my sleep, and I will be there before I wake, lol.
Finally, after much observation, I realized that its time to reallocate my initial reuse and recycle the innovative idea in the used industry. This was about when I started the Cumberland location and expanded to Campbell River. My mean goal is to transform the taboo stigma attached to the thrift industry and set up an image whereby people of all kinds would understand the importance and necessity of thrift stores in our society.
This opportunity is the road map for helping communities and those in need of what we sell in the store. With this business, I will provide temporary shelters for the Homeless and those in need of support in every community we open a location. It takes two to tangle; we need our community donations to help us reach out to those in need. Whatever is donated stays right here in the community.

Our Unique Start Up

Qualitown Store was founded and established on 2015 April 4 in Cumberland. Cumberland is a small city of about 3,000 inhabitancy, and its located among the Comox Valley, which includes Courtenay and Comox. The founder of Qualitown was a nurse at the time of discovering the idea of starting a business in the used industry that would modernize the overall outcome of thrift shopping. With this in thought, she put up a little start in the City of Cumberland as she continued working as a nurse. This little location has a great start, with two full-time employees committed to running the business. At the same time, the owner works as a nurse but operates from home, sorting donations and pricing clothing, shoes and other household items that are finally brought to the store.

Our Store

The gold at Qualitown is to remodify the taboo of thrift stores into a much more modernized outcome that is presentable convenient, and efficient for everyone in the society who loves thrifty. Our aim is to transform between a donation and re-selling products that will motivate a shopper to continuously patronize us in a standard that is presentable and appealing to the public. Our store is clean and organized at all times. This impression has been inconsistent from the beginning as a revolution to the fundamental change in the used business.

Our Campbell River Location

During the years, Qualitown Store has seen significant growth in the business. We have grown from our 800sf location in Cumberland with only two employees to an area with 8600sf with 12 current full-time workers. Hard work, consistency and inspiration have motivated us to build a successful business today. We have sustained our Campbell River location since March 5th, 2016, which was the location’s grand opening. We were gladly welcomed and supported by the community, and since then, we have seen sustainable growth in staffing and overall business experience.

In this location, we find a much more suitable space that is 8600sf compared to our Cumberland 800sf space. In our new site, we explored various merchandise and ideas that were the initial aim of the founder of the business. Campbell River was a more prominent location and the City’s 30,000 population as of 2016. It appears that Qualitown is the biggest thrift store in the City at that time. The community and its inhabitant were very excited to have our business in the City. Our grand opening was memorable as it was accepted by many community shoppers who were happy to shop with us. The community of Campbell River has been very supportive of donations and shopping locally.
