Our Story

The Qualitown story began in 2015 in Cumberland on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, when Caroline Ese Bleaney founded the business with a vision of creating a different kind of thrift store.

The idea was built around three simple values: quality, affordability and community.

From the beginning, the goal was not simply to fill a store with second-hand merchandise. The vision was to create a place where people from all walks of life could shop comfortably, discover useful and beautiful items, and find prices that respected their household budgets.

Qualitown began modestly, but the vision was always bigger than the building itself.

As customers donated, shopped, returned and told others about the store, Qualitown became part of the local community. Those relationships taught us something important: a successful thrift store is built not only on merchandise, but on trust.

People trust us with the items they donate. Customers trust us to provide value. Employees give their time and energy to help create a welcoming environment. Community partners trust us to remain connected to the people and communities around us.

From Cumberland, Qualitown’s journey continued to Campbell River, where we had the privilege of serving the community for several years.

Those years became an important part of our story. They gave us experience, strengthened our values and helped shape the kind of organization we wanted Qualitown to become.

We learned that people appreciate thrift shopping that feels clean, organized, respectful and enjoyable. We learned that affordability matters deeply to families. And we saw firsthand how donated goods can continue providing value long after their original owners no longer need them.

Today, Qualitown begins another exciting chapter in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

Although the location has changed, the heart of Qualitown remains the same.

We are bringing the lessons, experiences and community spirit of our Vancouver Island beginnings into Maple Ridge while building an even stronger vision for the future.
